Hathor, the Ancient Egyptian Goddess of Love, Lust, Passion, Music and Alcohol was another Goddess of distinctly contradictory roles. As Hathor, she was the personification of Joy, the patron of music and dance, and thewelcomer of the dead to the afterlife. She was associated by the greeks with Aphrodite. She is one of the oldest deities known of Ancient Egypt, and her worship stretches into the Pre-Dyanastic period. She is associated with Ra, in some stories is his mother, in others his daughters, and in more still, his wife. She is also sometimes considered the mother of Horus. She has a maternal nature and is often depicted as a cow nurturing her calf. However, another of her aspects is Sekhmet, the Lioness goddess of wrath, chaos and war. When Ra sent her forth as a the lioness to punish humans for plotting against him, she became so bloodthirsty she could not be stopped and nearly destroyed all of mankind. She was tricked into drinking a great lake of beer colour to resemble blood until she became so drunk she fell asleep, ending her great slaughter. When once again tamed, she returned as Hathor and took up her duties as the goddess of love once again. She is also associated with cats, trees and the afterlife, providing comfort to the dead and welcoming them into the afterlife.
Hathor's shade is a cool, mid-toned red of blood and wine. It is the shade of the Egyptian depictions of Ra, the Sun, and the colour of energy, fire and joy.
This is a matte, loose blush in a bold cool red shade. Moderately pigmented, but still sheer to allow natural beauty to shine through. This is a buildable pigment.
